How Can I Tell If My Hair Is Damaged?

It’s not always obvious when your hair is in need of some help, but there are some tell-tale signs you can look out for:

• Your hair looks and feels dull, brittle and dry.  If your hair has lost its natural shine and is permanently parched and out of control, it’s time to rehydrate it.
• You’re noticing hair breakage and excess shedding.  While it’s normal to have a few split ends ahead of a trim, if you are noticing your hair breaking it’s a sign it needs help.
• Your hair gets tangled and knots easily.  Most people shouldn’t need to spend more than a couple of minutes teasing out the tangles after washing.
• Your hair colour looks dull or turns brassy.  When hair lacks moisture and nutrients it starts to look dull.  Your hair colour pigments can also fade and change colour with sun exposure.
• Regular hair care products stop working as they should.  If your regular conditioning products stop working it could be because your hair has become highly porous.  This means damage to the hair cuticle allows the nourishing ingredients of your mask to simply wash away.

The scientists at Redken have come up with the must-have system for repairing and rehydrating all types of damaged hair.  Acidic Bonding Complex contains a concentrated bonding care formula that reinforces the hair’s weakened bonds, strengthening the hair and while balancing its pH.

The products infuse dry and damaged hair with the intense conditioning and repair that it needs.  It also helps protect against colour fade and future damage by improving the hair’s resilience.

The first step in the ABC regimen is an in-salon intensive treatment for damaged hair.  Redken tests have shown that it provides 14 x smoother hair and 63% less breakage compared to using non conditioning shampoo.   The pre-shampoo treatment prepares the hair for the full benefits of ABC Shampoo and Conditioner.

Add A Mask To Your Hair Care Routine

Hair masks are deep conditioning treatments which offer super-concentrated results, so they are ideal for thirsty, damaged hair.   Conditioner is vital for dry and damaged hair because it contains nourishing ingredients which help to replenish the outer protective layer which has been lost, restoring and repairing your hair. 

We recommend using a regular conditioner after every wash, but once or twice a week replacing this with a mask instead.  You don’t need to use both conditioner and a mask at the same time.  A mask is super nourishing on its own and will help to detangle your hair.

Refresh Your Hair Colour

Use a Blue or Violet Shampoo For Blonde Hair

You can replace the lost blue colour molecules in your hair and dampen down brassiness by using a professional quality blue or purple shampoo and conditioner.  We recommend Redken Color Extend Blondage.  This gently cleanses blonde and highlighted hair, strengthening and repairing it.  At the same time it deposits violet pigments to remove unwanted brassy tones, leaving your blonde colour cool and bright.

A hair gloss is a subtle colouring and conditioning treatment.  Similar to a toning treatment, glosses are a demi-permanent hair colour that help enhance your hair’s natural shine while revitalising your hair colour.

Once applied to the hair, the gloss perfects, tones, and colour-corrects any hair colour imperfections that have occurred since your last colour appointment. At our Cardiff salons we use Redken Shades EQ gloss which can transform and refresh your hair colour in just 20 minutes.
